Polycarbonate film is a durable, flexible material which is often used for high-quality and security goverment cards like national ID cards, driver's license, passport, militery cards, and other ID cards, like bank cards, credit cards, member cards etc.

But how to use polycarbonate films to make the cards? Let's know the steps.

1. Preparing the design
Make a safe, useful design with all the information you need.

2. Printing the layout
For durability and vibrant colors, use a UV printer to print the design onto a printable polycarbonate layer.
Add features like invisible UV ink patterns for enhanced security.

3. Assembling Layers
Stack several polycarbonate film layers:Strength and rigidity are provided by the core layer.

Security prints and personal information are included in the laserable layer.

Overlay layer: A clear covering that protects against UV rays and scratches.

Insert a contactless chip or RFID between the layers if you're using one.

4. The lamination
Place all layers into the laminator.

To fuse layers into a monolithic structure, set the laminator to 170°C to 200°C and apply high pressure for a predetermined amount of time.

To prevent flaws, make sure the temperature and pressure are constant.

5. Engraving using a laser
Details like photos, signatures, unique identities, or serial numbers can be etched with a laser engraver.

Because laser engraving pierces the layers, changes are not possible.

6. Cutting and Finishing
Cut the laminated sheet to the proportions of a normal card.

For a polished look, round the edges with a corner cutter.

7. Including Security Features
Use holographic inlays or overlays to provide visual verification.
Check the RFID or chip's functionality after it has been embedded for electronic IDs.
